August 31 " International Overdose Awareness Day"

(I attempted to write a poem addressing various modes of drug overdoses and some suggestions regarding them.)

4 years old playful Neal

Sees Momma taking a pill

"Wow- candy", Baby gets eager

Alas! Momma kept it near

Coincidence, it wasn't that bitter

Poor Neal shared it with Peter

Momma enters to check on her son

Realized what she had done

Cautious to drugs; don't be late

Only you can change your fate!!

14 years Eva locked in a room

Lonely, Bored, feeling of impending doom

Her boyfriend betrayed her feeling

She sees no way to healing

No appetite and sleepless nights

Could not judge wrong versus right

The world seemed cheesy for her

A handful of drugs was easy for her

Timely psychological counseling and positive vibes

Could have saved her beautiful life!!

A young doctor on the emergency floor

Wrote a prescription hard to ignore

1.2 was written faintly there

12 was perceived by the reader

The pharmacy was so busy that day

Drug overdose was easy that day

Lithium had a narrow window

Nurses too missed it in a row

Communication gap can be a terror

Alerts, popups, EMRs can reduce human error!!

30 years old Smith driving a car

Waiting for his friend to enter a bar

Wines and whiskeys, he was chilling

Cigars and Cocaine silently killing

''Hey Smith let's have some fun"

"I had my trip, it is your turn"

Drank Smith overdosed himself

Severe chest pain, he needed help

Poor Smith in severe pain

Do not make Peer pressure, a trend!!
